January 25 - At Sea

We woke a little before 7 am and went down the hall to the fitness center.  The seas are a bit rough so even though my treadmill was set at no incline, I felt like I was going up and down hills anyway.  Breakfast was at the main restaurant, the Compass Rose.  I tried their avocado toast with poached eggs.  It was OK, but not my favorite.

There was a Meet and Mingle of a dozen or so people from the discussion site Cruise Critic.  Met Phil and Carole from Portland (and Black Butte Ranch right up the road!) and Gail and Russell from Cupertino.  The Captain even stopped by to welcome us.  He says plans are in the works for self-driving ships.  Think I'll stick with the ones with humans at the helm.

After lunch, we went back to the cabin to finalize our unpacking.  I think we've found a place for everything, but we will probably still move stuff around as we see what works.  I'm pleasantly surprised that everything we brought has a place and there's not too much lying aroung cluttering up the place.  Based on suggestions on Cruise Critic, we brought heavy duty magnetized hooks and they have come in very handy.  I also have magnetized clips holding up our scratch off world map which we will update as we get to new places.  And we have the family calendar that Anna puts together every year which gives us pictures of the family as well as a way to keep track of events.

This will get more colorful as we go along.

The blue hook on the right is actually from Princess Cruises - shhh!

I wandered up to the trivia game while Michael went to have a steam at the fitness center.  Our team had 11/15 but that wasn't enough to come in among the top three.  If I'd only spoken up about the animal pictured on the cover of Carole King's Tapestry album (cat), we'd have won some Regent tokens which you can use towards shirts or something.  Don't know how I knew it was a cat.  I did convince them that the quote they were looking for was "You can't handle the truth!" from A Few Good Men, so I did contribute.

Tonight was the first "block party" where everyone is invited to step out into the hall outside their cabin with their wine glass to meet their neighbors.  The crew comes around to say a quick hi, pour wine and serve appetizers before rushing to the next "block".  It's a fun tradition.  We discovered that Tim and Maureen from dinner at the Ritz and Gail and Russell from the Meet and Mingle today are neighbors.

We had dinner resercations at the steakhouse Prime 7 this evening, and it turns out so did Gail and Russell, so we all shared a table with Ken who we met yesterday while waiting for lunch.  Wonderful lamb chops for me and a filet mignon for Michael.
