February 7 - Nuku Hiva, French Polynesia
Finally, our series of port stops begins in earnest. We've been to Nuka Hiva before in 2016 on the Aranui V so we elected not to take the only tour available again. It's simply a drive around the island in a jeep or small pickup truck with stops at a few places. We chose to take the tender in and then just wander around. We did have to get to the post office to mail a few postcards to friends. Michael has taken old postcards that his father collected many, many years ago on his travels and is now sending them to friends. So someone will get a card of Florence, Italy mailed from Honolulu, for example.
This is a beautiful island and the people are so sweet. It was quite warm and muggy, so we didn't spend much time here - just enough to get a few photos and work up a thirst. We returned to the same small "restaurant" we'd visited last time and had a Hinano beer which we discovered on our last trip thanks to Bob Houston. Had to send Bob a photo of Michael enjoying his cold one.
Then back to the ship for a nice lounge around the pool for a while. Trivia was bad, but considering there were only 3 of us, we didn't embarrass ourselves.
We had a sharing table at Chartreuse tonight and were seated with Betty and Roger again and Carol and Tony from England. Fun people and a good dinner. The show was the comedian again so we decided to skip it. Tomorrow is a sea day.
