March 12 - Port Lincoln, Australia
Some of that crocodile or kangaroo last night must not have agreed with me, so I decided to stay on board and not go on our scheduled tour on the maritime history of the area. Michael went and said it was very interesting and they provided an excellent fish and chips lunch.
We finally got a letter about changes to our upcoming itinerary. Instead of heading north to India, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain, and Portugal before crossing to Miami, the new plan is to cross over to the Seychelles, Mauritius, South Africa, Namibia, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, then to some ports in the Caribbean and to Miami where the World Cruisers who started there will get off as scheduled. That includes a lot of sea days - 34 to be exact as opposed to 19 on the original cruise. Then, supposedly, we carry on as previously scheduled to San Francisco. If we elect to get off in Freemantle (Perth), we could take a refund for the remaining portion OR take a 125% future cruise credit. If we stay on, we get 50% off the remaining cruise AND a 50% future cruise credit. There are a few restrictions on the credit.
We are torn. The new schedule is still not completely finalized, and things can certainly change along the way. Ports could decide later not to let us dock or disembark. The new planned itinerary is REALLY not the cruise we signed up for, and frankly, we probably wouldn't have signed up for it if we'd known that itinerary. On the other hand, we hate to leave so early because we've had a great time so far and made some good friends that we were looking forward to spending more time with. We are in a very safe and protected environment with no illnesses on board. At this point, it's really a gamble whether the world situation will improve over the next couple of months, or get even worse. There will be a "town hall" meeting tomorrow where hopefully we can get some questions answered. The biggest one is who pays to get us and our luggage home if we leave. We're pretty sure that would be on us, but the questions need to be asked.
Had a nice dinner with Pam and Ralph at Compass Rose and will probably eat with them again tomorrow since we both have reservations at Prime 7 for a sharing table.
Lots to think about and decisions to be made.
